It has been over a year since we launched our first website. And what a year it has been: Periodic attendances at Trade Shows and an appreciable growth in business despite the economic challenges around us ...

Our geographic spread has increased through the securing of new partnerships with distributors. And — perhaps in part through our own efforts to make ourselves known more widely — more people seem to be aware both of the Peck & Strong name plus, we hope, the deliciousness of what we produce!

The future looks exciting.

November 2011:   SALSA Audit Recognition
After months of preparation, we have finally gained accreditation from SALSA (Safe & Local Supplier Approval). In September's audit, we were given the following overview of our performance: "An excellent production site, well finished and maintained. Produces premium hand-made products from quality raw materials. Well managed and enthusiastic staff with significant experience of their craft."  We were delighted at such an affirmation.

October 2011:   A triple clutch of Exhibition Halls!
We are thrilled to have been appointed to supply Creative Events at possibly the best-known and largest exhibition hall venues in London: Earl's Court, Olympia and Excel in Docklands.

With an almost constant flow of Trade and other Shows we are being kept very busy  -  and are pleased to be helping towards the keeping upright of weary foot sloggers with some of our delicious slices!


October 2011:   A Roof-Top Eye on the Future
We have just completed the installation on the southern elevation of our massive 350 square foot roof of a 50kw Photo Voltaic system  -  which enables us to convert bright daylight (when we have it!) into our own electricity, with any power that we do not use being exported into the national grid.

So still doing everything we can think of to care for the environment ...

July 2011:   Pushing Boundaries in the Lake District
Peck & Strong is thrilled to have been taken on by established Windermere-based distributor and family firm W.McClure Ltd  - so making our distinctive range of Cakes and Slices available to Cumbria and beyond.

With the synergies of culture that McClure's and Peck & Strong share, this is especially pleasing for us. And it fits excellently with our aspiration of achieving - through selected distributors - (and over time) a  UK-wide presence.


September 2010:   New Chocolate Fudge Cake hits the ground running ...
After many requests from our Customers  -  then months of trials and preparation  -  we have finally launched our first ever Chocolate Fudge Cake. It had to be good: dark, luscious and full of intense Chocolate flavours.

Now we have it: fully coated, 10" in diameter, with substantial height and made with the best ingredients that its deep flavours demand. 

And from the beginning the take-up has been fantastic ...
July 2010:   A Happy Union
We are thrilled to say that we have been taken on by the newly opened Union Market in London's Fulham.  After months of discussions, and a false start or two in their finding a suitable, perfectly located site, Union Market finally opened its doors at the start of July within what was once the Walham Green later 'Fulham Broadway' station concourse. 

A very elegant setting -  now restored to its former Edwardian glory  -  is an apt one for Peck & Strong products:  Real food, that is both nostalgic and contemporary at once!


June 2010:   Getting Cultured!
For the first time, Peck & Strong this year exhibited at the Caffe Culture Trade Show at Olympia at the end of June.  The 2010 Show (doubling up as it did with the World Barista Championships) was apparently the largest ever.  It was also the noisiest!

In turn, our own stand was the largest we have ever had  -  with a frontage of 5m to display our Cakes, our Slices and our Vegetarian Savoury products  -  attracting a phenominal interest with people queuing to learn more about us.
June 2010:   Peck & Strong championed through Government Food Standards Agency scheme
A national agreement set up by the Government's Food Standards Agency means that Mid Devon District Council can act as a 'regulatory champion' for Peck & Strong in its dealings throughout the United Kingdom.

"Peck & Strong have shown a willingness to take on board the advice of the food team at the Council and have shown a high regard for food hygiene which allows us to take this home authority arrangement forward ..."

February 2010:   New business with West Country Foodservice Distributor
From Tuesday to Thursday 2-4 February, and two months after being appointed by Exeter-based West Country Foodservice distributor J&R Foodservice, we took part in a three day Trade event at Expowest, set in Exeter's Westpoint.

January 2010:   Launching new Point of Sale material
Building upon our assertive launch forth last September to a wider market, Peck & Strong is set to be busier than ever this new year.

Starting the year with our new website and the introduction for the first time of printed Point of Sale material for each product, along with A5 posters, already Customer purchases are on the increase and brand awareness developing well ...

November 2009:   Acquisition of further long wheel base vehicle

To cater to the growing demand for our products post re-brand and Olympia, we have invested in a spanking new vehicle to increase our fleet, allowing us to supply Client wholesalers around Britain with a dedicated delivery, by us, door to door. That way we can guarantee the best service.

June 2009:   Launch of new visual identity with branding, brochure & packaging

With our original logo designed a long time ago almost on the back of an envelope for a mere £25 by a friend in the pub it was time this year to do a more professional job and employ a design company. The result is what we hope is evident in this website – an effective expression of our values and approach to what we do: care, attention to detail, distinctiveness and quirk!


March 2009:   Devon ‘Secret Squirrel’ Food Producer Trades Up By Four Times

Confounding the prevailing gloomy economic background, Exeter-based PECK & STRONG — ‘quiet’ producers since 1980 of a collection of wholesome no-nonsense sweet cakes & snacks and vegetarian savoury flans — has moved to new purpose-designed production facilities nearly four times the size of its previous site.
